My Approach

I do not believe architecture should be limited to a particular style. Every client, property, and project is different. Rather than applying the same design approach to every project, I take the time to understand my client's needs, priorities, lifestyle, and vision.

At Studio Barna Architecture, my goal is to make the architectural process collaborative, understandable, and rewarding—from the initial ideas and sketches through permitting and construction.

Your project is unique. Your architecture should be too.

Architecture Designed Around You

I’m David Barna, founder of Studio Barna Architecture, a California-based architectural design studio established in 2024. I believe great architecture begins with listening and understanding how you live, work, and envision your space, and then translating those ideas into a thoughtful and functional design.

I graduated from California State University, Chico in 2002 with a degree in Construction Management, with an option in Architectural Project Management. Since then, I have worked with several architecture and design firms throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area, gaining experience across both the design and construction sides of the profession. I earned my California architecture license in 2017 and am also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

My work focuses primarily on new residential homes, additions, remodels and renovations, and small commercial tenant improvements. Having worked in the Bay Area since 2003, I have developed a strong understanding of the local design and permitting process, as well as the practical realities of construction.

That experience allows me to approach each project from more than just a design perspective. I understand what local jurisdictions need to move a project through the permitting process, while also understanding what contractors need from a set of drawings to actually build the project. My goal is to bring those perspectives together to create designs that are not only beautiful, but thoughtful, practical, and buildable.

Collaborative Design

Architecture is a dialogue. My methodology is rooted in a client-centered approach, where every project is a collaborative journey designed to meet your unique needs and aspirations.
